Glacier retreat in Montana
NPS reports that every named glacier in the park became smaller between 1966 and 2015. Repeated imagery and field measurements provide different ways to monitor change.
The park removed simplified disappearance dates from exhibits as understanding improved. Area retreat does not by itself quantify ice volume or downstream summer flow.
