Boscastle flood and channel improvements
Torrential rain on 16 August 2004 produced a rapid flood that damaged homes, businesses and transport. The Environment Agency’s retrospective describes changes to the Valency and Jordan.
Widening and deepening the Valency and replacing a bridge increased flow capacity. Space for sediment and measures against blockage address processes that a taller wall alone would miss.
