Environmental governance in Antarctica
The Environmental Protocol brings environmental protection into the Antarctic Treaty system. It identifies Antarctica as a natural reserve devoted to peace and science and sets principles for activities there.
The protocol separates scientific research from mineral-resource exploitation. Study how an agreement restricts activity, then ask how decisions are made and how compliance is checked.
